So what is The Herriot Way? Its a 52 Mile route through beautiful valleys, high, open fellsand rolling, heather-clad moorland. I walked through historic monuments, passed through a barren industrial wilderness due to lead mining and all of this of course in the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales.
I used Stuart Greig's E-Book guide to The Herriot Way which gives you a step by step description of the route and you can buy it here.
I've never done a solo hike before so where better to give it a go than in my own back yard in North Yorkshire. This 13 mile day is suitable for beginners but I will say it will depend on what the weather conditions have been and are whilst you're hiking.
I spent the night at the YHA Grinton Lodge Hostel and couldn't recommend it highly enough if you wanted to do a multi-day hike in this area ; A bed in single sex female bunk, hot showers, a 3 course meal and cooked breakfast in the morning and friendly, chatty staff and guests.
